PM Shehbaz Welcomes US Recognition of Pakistan’s Counter-Terrorism Efforts
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the US President’s acknowledgment of counter-terrorism efforts, emphasizing the country’s sacrifices and ongoing commitment to regional peace and stability.
In a statement, PM Shehbaz highlighted that former US President Donald Trump’s remarks serve as recognition of Pakistan’s significant role in the global fight against terrorism. He reaffirmed that Pakistan remains a steadfast partner of the US in ensuring peace and stability in the region.
Sacrifices of Pakistan in the War Against Terrorism
The Prime Minister underscored immense sacrifices in the war on terror, stating that the Nation has lost 80,000 lives in its relentless efforts to eliminate terrorism. He reiterated that both the leadership and the people of Pakistan are fully committed to eradicating terrorism and ensuring global security.
Pakistan has played a pivotal role in counter-terrorism operations, supporting efforts to dismantle extremist networks and contributing to peacekeeping initiatives worldwide. The country’s security forces and intelligence agencies have worked diligently to combat terrorist threats, making significant progress in maintaining regional stability.
Donald Trump’s Statement on Pakistan’s Role
It is noteworthy that former US President Donald Trump had previously expressed his gratitude towards Pakistan for its cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts, particularly in Afghanistan.
“I want to thank the government of Pakistan in particular because Pakistan played a key role in the arrest of this terrorist,” Trump stated, acknowledging Pakistan’s support in bringing terrorists to justice. He further mentioned that Pakistan’s assistance was instrumental in capturing a key terrorist involved in the killing of 13 Americans in Afghanistan over three and a half years ago.
During his longest address to Congress, Trump reaffirmed that the fight against extremist terrorism continues. He also criticized the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, calling it a “shameful decision” that could have negatively impacted America’s global security position.
With Pakistan’s counter-terrorism contributions receiving international recognition, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed that the country’s partnership with the US will continue in the interest of peace, stability, and security in the region.
