Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif reiterated his commitment to working closely with the World Bank to achieve these objectives and improve opportunities for the people of Pakistan.

The CPF aligns with Pakistan’s national priorities and centers on six critical areas of development:

World Bank Funding: Breaking Down the $20 Billion Commitment

The $20 billion pledge includes funding through two key channels:

  • International Development Association (IDA): Nearly 75% of the total funding will come through IDA, supporting Pakistan’s most pressing development needs.
  • International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD): The remaining funds will be provided under IBRD.

The CPF’s approval received strong backing, with 19 out of 24 World Bank directors voting in favor.


Major Goals of the Country Partnership Framework

The CPF aims to address the following key priorities:

  1. Reducing Child Stunting – Implementing targeted programs to combat malnutrition.
  2. Preventing Climate Change – Introducing measures to mitigate environmental risks.
  3. Improving Education Outcomes – Strengthening education systems and accessibility.
  4. Expanding Clean Water Access – Providing safe and sustainable water to communities.
  5. Boosting Public and Private Investment – Mobilizing resources for inclusive economic growth.
  6. Increasing Tax Revenues – Raising the tax-to-GDP ratio to 15% to support sustainable development.

Additional Support from the International Finance Corporation

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) will offer supplementary resources to enhance the CPF’s objectives. This additional funding will strengthen Pakistan’s capacity to address challenges and achieve its development goals.

This $20 billion partnership demonstrates a shared vision for Pakistan’s future, addressing critical areas such as child nutrition, education, climate resilience, and inclusive growth while laying the foundation for sustainable economic progress.
