Joint Parliamentary Session to Pass Remaining Bills
The federal Government has scheduled a joint session of Parliament on January 24 to finalize important legislation. During this consultative meeting , several pending bills will be approved by both houses.
Key Legislation to Be Approved
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs will release the official agenda for the joint session later today. According to parliamentary sources, the session will convene at 10 a.m. on Friday, where the remaining bills will be passed. These laws have not yet been approved by both houses, and the joint session is expected to bring them to completion.
Government’s Directive for MPs to Attend
The government has instructed all members of the National Assembly and senators to remain in Islamabad for the joint session. Members are required to ensure their presence in the House during the meeting to ensure smooth passage of the remaining bills.

Tensions in the National Assembly
The proposal to convene the session had already stirred controversy, particularly concerning the participation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had initially refused to attend the meeting without the Prime Minister’s presence. However, after pressure from the PPP, the Prime Minister attended the session.
Upon his arrival, the opposition parties disrupted the session by raising slogans, including “hoo-hoo” and “thief.” Opposition members, led by Umar Ayub, stood on their seats, tore copies of the agenda, and raised placards. The protests were so loud that proceedings in the assembly were temporarily halted.
Meanwhile, PPP members in the House remained seated, indifferent to the ongoing disruptions. Eventually, the Speaker of the National Assembly was forced to adjourn the session due to the chaos caused by the opposition’s protest.
Consultative Meeting
The upcoming joint session of Parliament is crucial for passing the pending bills, but political tensions continue to overshadow the legislative process. The government is urging its members to ensure their full participation to ensure the passage of these important laws.
